London Stansted and Luton — Ryanair and Wizz Air price from £39 on sale, £59 typical. Manchester and Edinburgh (easyJet, Ryanair) start £65. Heathrow (BA, Lufthansa) is £79+.
Direct flights take 1h 55m airport-to-airport. Berlin Brandenburg (BER) opened in 2020 — all Berlin flights land here (TXL and SXF are closed). The airport is 18km south of central Berlin; S-Bahn S9/S45 to Friedrichstraße in 35 minutes, €4.40.
UK passport holders can visit Germany (Schengen Area) visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS authorisation will apply once live — check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/germany. Passport must be valid for 3 months beyond departure.
All UK flights use Terminal 1 at Berlin Brandenburg (BER). Lufthansa, BA and Aegean are at Pier B; easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz at Pier A. The old Tegel (TXL) and Schönefeld (SXF) airports are permanently closed — BER replaced both when it finally opened in October 2020.
November, January and February — fares from £39. Avoid Berlinale (mid-February), ITB tourism trade show (March), Berlin Marathon (late September) and Christmas markets (December) when hotels spike.
Much cheaper — restaurants and beer are 30–40% below London prices. A döner kebab is €4–5; a good dinner with drinks €25–35 per person. Public transport is €3.50 single, €9.50 day pass. Berlin hotel prices have risen since 2019 but still trail Paris or Amsterdam.
