London Luton and Stansted — easyJet and Ryanair price from £45 one-way. Manchester and Birmingham (Jet2, KLM) are £55–£65. Heathrow BA/KLM sits at £75 premium.
Direct flights take 1h 20m airport-to-airport. Total door-to-door is 3h 30m with check-in and transfers. Eurostar St Pancras to Amsterdam Centraal is 3h 55m direct, from £50 — often the better option.
UK passport holders can visit the Netherlands (Schengen Area) visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS authorisation will apply once live — check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/netherlands. Passport must be valid for 3 months beyond departure.
Schiphol (AMS) is directly under the terminal — train to Amsterdam Centraal takes 15–17 minutes, €5.90. Trains every 10 minutes, 24h. Taxi is €40–€50 in 25–35 minutes. Uber works. Avoid hotel shuttle desks — public transport is faster and a tenth the cost.
November, January and February — fares from £45. Avoid King's Day (27 April), tulip season (mid-April), Pride weekend (early August) and Christmas markets (December) when hotels triple.
The Netherlands uses the euro (EUR, €). The Dutch are effectively cashless — cards accepted everywhere, contactless standard. Maestro/V-Pay preferred at some supermarkets; most now take Visa/Mastercard. Carry €20–€50 cash for tips and the occasional Maestro-only kiosk.
