Guernsey Airport (GCI)
Guernsey Airport (GCI) is the only airport on the island of Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency in the English Channel. Located in the Forest parish in the south-west of the island, it handles around 700,000 passengers per year and is the island's vital air link to the UK mainland.
Aurigny, Guernsey's own state-owned airline, is the dominant carrier. It operates routes to London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Bristol, East Midlands, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Blue Islands flies to Southampton and Jersey. British Airways CityFlyer serves London Heathrow. These routes are not just convenient — they are a lifeline for a small island with no fixed link to the mainland.
Guernsey is notable as a British Crown Dependency: not part of the UK, not in the EU, with its own government, tax system and lower-than-UK VAT rates. UK passport holders can travel to Guernsey without a passport using photo ID, though carrying one is always recommended. The island is one of the most tax-efficient jurisdictions in Europe and has a prosperous financial sector alongside its tourism and agriculture.

Guernsey Airport FAQs
UK and Irish citizens do not technically need a passport — a valid photo ID (such as a driving licence) is accepted. However, all airlines strongly recommend carrying a passport as the most universally accepted ID. Guernsey is a British Crown Dependency, not part of the UK or EU, but UK nationals travel freely. Non-UK/Irish nationals should check specific requirements as immigration rules differ from mainland UK.
Aurigny is Guernsey's state-owned airline, founded in 1968. It operates ATR 72 turboprop aircraft and is the island's main carrier, serving London Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, East Midlands and Edinburgh. Named after the French name for Alderney island, Aurigny is a lifeline carrier for the Bailiwick. Fares can be higher than mainland budget airlines — book early for best prices.
They serve different islands — use GCI for Guernsey and JER for Jersey. Jersey is slightly larger with marginally more airline choice. Both are served by Aurigny/Blue Islands and BA routes. The islands are separate Crown Dependencies, 30 miles apart.
Yes. Guernsey is outside the UK VAT area and has its own lower-rate GST. Duty-free shopping is available airside for departing passengers. UK import allowances apply when returning from Guernsey (the same as from any non-UK destination). Check current HMRC allowances before buying spirits, tobacco or perfume in quantity.
Bus routes 51 and 71 run from the airport to St Peter Port in approximately 30 minutes for around £2. Taxis from outside the terminal take around 20 minutes and cost approximately £15–20. The island is small so the journey is never lengthy.
Aurigny (London Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh), Blue Islands (Southampton, Jersey), and British Airways CityFlyer (London Heathrow). Aurigny is by far the dominant carrier as Guernsey's state airline.
Short Stay and Long Stay car parking is available on-site. Rates are reasonable compared to mainland airports. Bus routes 51 and 71 are a convenient alternative for island residents — parking at the airport for an extended break may cost less than expected given the lower local rates.
Yes. Car hire desks operate at the terminal. Note Guernsey's unique road rules: speed limits are lower than the UK mainland (most roads 35 mph maximum; many lanes 15–25 mph) and the island's narrow lanes reward careful driving. Guernsey drives on the left like the UK. A car is useful for the coastal roads and clifftop walks not easily reached by bus.
